Refund and Cancellation Policy

Effective date: May 15, 2026

This policy explains when we issue refunds for Kept Word and how to cancel a paid plan. It is part of our Terms of Service.

Free tier

The free tier of Kept Word does not involve any payment, so there is nothing to refund. You can stop using the free tier or delete your account at any time from Settings.

Cancelling a paid plan

You can cancel a paid plan at any time from Settings, or by emailing support@keptword.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. If you cancel mid-month on a monthly plan, you keep access until that month is over, and we do not charge you again. The same applies to annual plans: cancellation stops the next annual renewal but keeps your access through the period you have already paid for.

You do not need to give a reason. We will not try to talk you out of it.

Refunds within 7 days of purchase

If you sign up for a paid plan and decide within 7 days that it is not for you, email us at support@keptword.com and we will refund the full amount, no questions asked. This applies to:

  • Your first monthly subscription.
  • Your first annual subscription.
  • An upgrade from monthly to annual.

To qualify, the request must reach us within 7 days of the initial charge. After 7 days, the refund options below apply instead.

Refunds after the 7-day window

After 7 days, refunds are at our discretion. We will consider them when:

  • We have had a significant service outage that affected your ability to use Kept Word.
  • A billing error charged you incorrectly.
  • A bug on our side caused data loss.

Outside of those circumstances, we generally do not refund partial periods (for example, the unused portion of a month or year). This is standard for subscription services. You can cancel future renewals at any time, but the period you have already paid for runs to completion.

Renewal charges

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period. We do not send a reminder email before a renewal charge by default. The renewal date is shown in Settings, and your receipt is emailed from Stripe after each charge. If you want renewal reminders, email us and we can enable them on your account.

If you forget to cancel and we charge you for a renewal you did not want, contact us within 7 days of the charge and we will refund it. Past that window, the refund rules above apply.

Account deletion vs. plan cancellation

These are two different actions:

  • Cancelling a plan stops future charges but keeps your account and all your content until the period you have paid for runs out. Your account then drops back to the free tier.
  • Deleting your account removes your account and the data we hold for it. If you delete your account while a paid plan is active, the plan is cancelled at the same time and we do not refund the remaining time on the plan unless you also request a refund under one of the rules above.

If you want both, full refund and account deletion, say so in your email and we will do both.

Disputes and chargebacks

If something has gone wrong with a charge, please contact us first. We can almost always sort it out faster than your bank can. Filing a chargeback without contacting us may result in your account being suspended pending the dispute, because the chargeback fee is itself a real cost to us.

How to request a refund or cancel

Email support@keptword.com with:

  • The email address on your Kept Word account.
  • The approximate date of the charge or charges you are asking about.
  • A short note explaining what you would like: refund, cancellation, or both.

We aim to respond within 2 business days and to process approved refunds within 5 to 10 business days. Refunds are returned through Stripe to the original payment method.
